Finish Your Workout

New Year's Eve in Los Angeles: Greystone Manor NYE party

Right or wrong, there’s something satisfying about leaving a workout feeling a little bit thrashed. Key phrase: “little bit.” Perfect for those of us who would rather steer clear of traditional cardio equipment, finishers are high-intensity sets smacked onto the end of a strength-training session that provide a metabolic boost in just a few short minutes.

You can use implements such as kettlebells, dumbells, or a barbell; or, you can use your own body weight to get the job done. My buddy Robert dos Remedios is a fan of jump squats, lunges, pushups, mountain climbers, and so on, and trust me when I say body-weight only is plenty effective for this task.

I filmed this quick finisher — a two-exercise ladder that requires one medium-heavy kettlebell — to finish off 2012 in style.

I changed it up at the last minute and tried your Bear complex instead and could only manage 2 x 5 rounds before collapsing in a whimpering heap ha!
