LWF Challenge Workout: Drop It Like It’s Hotby Jennifer Blake
One question my daughter often loves to ask me (one of many, since she’s 10 going on 18 and a wonderful and sometimes exasperating mix of curiosity and know-it-all) is: “What are your favorite things in the whole world, Mommy?”
She asks me this question all the time but I’m not allowed to list the same things more than once. “Those are the rules!” she says. So once I get through her, her brother, my husband, our dog, my parents, etc., I inevitably land on these two things: Exercise and travel. And happily, I was recently able to experience both at the same time on a long weekend trip to Philadelphia to visit Jen Sinkler, who’s hunkered down for the next month working on a hush-hush-for-now project in the city she adores above all others.
Right after the wheels of my plane touched down in Philly, we hit the ground running — well, walking, really: miles and miles per day, visiting her favorite restaurants, donut and coffee shops, and gyms. Of course gyms! And you know what always travels well when your itinerary is packed and you’re short on time? Lift Weights Faster circuits, natch. We rocked this kettlebell + bodyweight circuit post-class at CrossFit Center City, who’s staff was more than generous with the use of their space and time. (THANK YOU, CFCC!)
You don’t have to be on the road to take on this workout, but if you do, buckle your kettlebell in for safety and head to the nearest park. And who knows? Maybe it will end up on your list of favorite things too. Now grab a kettlebell and a workout timer and get to work.
“Drop It Like It’s Hot”
What you’re gonna do: Ladder the kettlebell movements while completing the bodyweight movements for the recommended reps.
How many reps you’re gonna do:
Kettlebell Hop-Back Deadlift 10, 8, 6, 4, 2
Bodyweight Reverse Lunge x 8 Each Side
Kettlebell Two-Handed Swing 10, 8, 6, 4, 2
Bodyweight Pushup x 8
Kettlebell Goblet Clean 10, 8, 6, 4, 2
Bodyweight Straight-Legged Sit-Up x 8
